Fishkill Elementary School Reviews

This is a great school with with a great staff. They really work with each child everyone knows the children . The principle sends home birthday cards

My family moved into the district two years ago following nearly 5 years in parochial schools in another district. Initially, I was concerned at the proximity of Fishkill Elementary to the main road of Rt 9, but soon discovered that safety is key at this well-guarded jewel of an elementary school. My daughter's teachers in grades 3 and 4 have been kind and well-equipt to teach exceptionally-talented children as well as those with learning challenges. Leadership in Mr McNally is top-notch! Mr McNally has a generous nature and is just strict enough to pull the very best out of each child in his care. When my daughter was going through several back to back personal losses, Mr McNally rallied the team to insure that not a step was lost in providing a complete and holositic education for my child. A geat experience!

Fishkill Elementary is a great school. Mr. McNally is a great principal. Both the children and parents love him. The environment is great and children really love to go to school. I'm overjoyed that my children attend such a great school.

I'm sad to say that I have been disappointed with this school thus far. Also, be aware that once your child finishes 5th grade they do not go straight to Van Wyck JH. Instead they go to Myers Corners (another elementary school) for one year and then onto Van Wyck. This is something that I wish I would have been aware of prior to moving within this school boundaries.

We have been very happy with Fishkill Elementary... great community, fantastic parent involvement!

The teachers are very involved with the students and they are kept highly motivated with their different approaches to the cirriculum. My daughter loves her new school. The parent-teacher association is also very active and involved. Thanks for all your hard work!

My son is presently a student at Fishkill and is now entering his 5th year there, where he is academically and socially thriving. He absolutely loves it. He comes home every day, excited about something new he either learned or took part in school that day. The administrative staff is excellent and every one knows your child's name from the moment they enter the school. The teaching staff is very dedicated and the vast majority is now younger teachers with positive ways to motivate the children. The children go to special rooms for music, art, gym and library which are all taught by very innovative and creative teachers. Parents feel very welcome, are encourage to join school and PTA sponsored programs. There is such as strong sense of school spirit, my child is very proud to be a 'Fishkill Frog'.

Quality of academic programs can be improved. Level of parent involvement is somewhat poor - depends on activity. Availability of music, arts is good. For children with learning disabilite, this school is very poor in delivering appropriate instruction and objective measurements.

Overall-good school and a close knit place for the kids. It does become a culture shock though when they go to other schools in the district. The political correctness needs to be done away with-Hero/Shero day being the biggest problem. Give the kids Halloween-parents can't afford to do two costumes here. All the other district schools do Halloween. This is a public school-not a private one for ones own adjenda. There are teachers that have only been there a few years-quite a few retirements over the last 4 years. The school is almost maxxed out with capacity. We need modulars in here soon or more kids will have to go to other schools in the district. Class sizes are big-27 in Kindergarten-30+ in upper grades. We need a new school here and soon.
